Your challenge

Business Unit:

The Sustainable Investment Team provides the sustainable portfolio management service for the Firm providing both bespoke and model portfolios to clients. The team works in conjunction with the Wealth/Relationship Managers providing sustainable investment management for IFAs, Private Clients, Charities and Trusts. The team contributes to the Investment Committee as well as sitting on various specialist sub-committees. The team is also responsible for LGT WM’s proprietary in-house sustainable tool, SMax, and for stewardship strategy and activities.

Brief Role Objective:

The position is in the Sustainable Investment Team management LGT WM’s Sustainable Model Portfolio Service for the UK and international IFA market. The Trainee Portfolio Manager will help to construct and maintain the LGT WM Sustainable Model Portfolios reflecting the Firm’s investment views and sustainable investing philosophy. The Trainee Portfolio Manager will help deliver IFA client pitches and regular update presentations as well as writing commentary on sustainable topics.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio management

  • Contribute towards the construction of the sustainable model portfolios, and customised sustainable IFA investment strategies
  • Manage assets and provide advice in accordance with LGT Wealth Management’s investment process, adhering to approved investment lists and risk parameters
  • Apply top-down and bottom-up sustainable investment insights to multi-asset class sustainable portfolios
  • Help contribute to idea generation, vehicle selection, risk and performance analysis
  • Communicate with the fund research team to develop the Sustainable Model Portfolios
  • Monitor markets to understand current drivers and market sentiment at the asset class and sub-asset class level
  • Assist with the evaluation of different asset classes and select appropriate securities for inclusion in the Sustainable Model Portfolios
  • Evaluate impact of strategic and tactical asset allocation decisions
  • Evaluate the impact of stock/fund specific, market and general economic indicators and take appropriate action within the Sustainable Model Portfolios
  • Portfolio performance/asset allocation
  • Ensure sustainable portfolios reflect the LGT WM house view

Sustainable investment management

  • Feed into LGT’s global net zero strategy and work with internal subject matter experts to implement LGT WM’s net zero investment strategy
  • Feed into quarterly reviews of third-party sustainable holdings to ensure the sustainable mandates are being adhered to
  • Develop LGT WM’s internal ESG/sustainable rating tool including the incorporation of new data providers
  • Work with Sustainable Investing Specialist to implement and evolve LGT WM’s (and LGT’s global) approach to stewardship

Communications

  • Act as a contact for IFAs and their clients for the Sustainable Model Portfolio Service
  • Be a point of contact for IFA pitches and ongoing investment update presentations
  • Deliver regular webinars on sustainable portfolios, sustainable topics and sustainable regulation for IFAs and their clients
  • Write clear, concise and technically accurate communications including sustainable investing thought-leadership pieces
  • Have involvement in ongoing market communications to IFAs and clients (written, quarterly and ad hoc webinars)

Your profile

Key Skills and Technical Requirements:

  • An understanding of all asset classes and portfolio construction within the wealth and asset management industry.
  • Knowledge and background in of sustainable investing, including knowledge of ESG data providers, knowledge on sustainable topics including but not limited to as net zero, biodiversity, just transition
  • Understanding of market cycles, drivers and characteristics, with experience applying this knowledge to portfolio management and positioning.
  • A working understanding of sustainable investment strategies (alternatives strategies, factor/styles, etc.) across asset classes.
  • Knowledge in multi-asset portfolio construction and risk management, with sustained framework behind investment process.
  • Communications skills, with ability to articulate portfolio and trade objectives at both a high level and at more nuanced levels to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Sound knowledge of UK sustainable wealth management industry and thorough understanding of the regulatory framework.
  • Experience within a similar role is desirable

 

Other Skills and Attributes:

  • Relevant industry qualifications (including but not limited to IMC or CFA) is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; with the ability to build relationships within the Research Team and also with key Wealth/Relationship Manager desks across the Firm.
  • Excellent organisation skills, effective time management and delivery to deadlines.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, specifically in the context of portfolio management.
  • Actively assists others as and when required to ensure that the team meets its objectives.
  • Ability to keep abreast of developments in the sustainable financial services industry and of all relevant regulatory changes.
  • Ability to take the initiative within an understood framework of scope and authority.
  • Acts at all times in a professional manner and as an ambassador to the Firm within the intermediary community.
  • Must be able to easily articulate complex market conditions and solutions to clients.
  • Deals with all matters promptly, professionally and effectively. Ability to work under pressure.
  • Conducts role in accordance with LGT’s policies and procedures adhering to the Firm’s compliance guidelines.
  • Entrepreneurial, self motivated and target driven.
  • Driven and hands-on, with excellent attention to detail.
